SUJAY BATRA

Sujay Batra studied Commercial Art as well as Textile Designing at Sophia Polytechnic, Bombay for seven years, doing what she loved the most, drawing. She has published (with Aleph Book Company) a coloring book for adults, The Mystical World, illustrating verses from Khalil Gibran’s The Prophet.
Aleph Book Co has also used Sujay’s illustrations for their own publishing of The Prophet.

Her exhibition, ‘Three Rooms’ at the Taj Art Gallery, raised money for a school for the underprivileged in Mysore.
Sujay paints with watercolour, gouache, powder pastel and ink, often combining two or more in one painting.
“I love nature and I resonate with the harmony in which flora and fauna exist. It is this peaceful coexistence that I try to reflect in my work. We forget that we are a part of this wonderful, symbiotic existence, and that is why we are never truly at peace within ourselves. I want to convey that peace through my drawings.”

“This short Aztec prayer sums it up for me:
Oh, only for so short a while you have loaned us to each other,
because we take form in your act of drawing us,
and we take life in your painting us,
and we breathe in your singing us.
But only for so short a while
have you loaned us to each other.”

Sujay’s exquisite artworks evoke joy and harmony while capturing the wonders of nature.
