ROHITA DOSHI

Born into a family of art lovers and art collectors, Rohita grew up in a home surrounded by interesting paintings and sculptures. She watched her mother advise corporates on their collection, help promote Anjolie Ela Menon in the 70s, and later, in the 90s present Affordable Art along with her three close friends. Rohita’s father was a well known art collector in the art world. (Refer to the book Elite Collectors of India) After retiring from his business, he set up a gallery with art works from acclaimed Indian artists, mentoring many new collectors. After spending twenty years as a computer professional and then an IT entrepreneur (co founder of SOULKURRY.com, the highly acclaimed portal for women), Rohita found herself drawn to her other passion, art.

She met many brilliant artists from different parts of India who would be perfect for the homes and offices of her friends who often sought her advice. This synergy gave birth to Art Point Gallery in South Mumbai, in two lovely rooms facing Chowpatty Beach. Artpoint was able to showcase and sell Emerging artists simultaneously with Contemporary artists and rare works of Masters, through a series of exhibitions.. unique for a gallery at that time. At home, Rohita learnt more about art through her mother in law Dr Saryu Doshi, the highly acclaimed art historian, author, editor, and former Hon Founder Director of NGMA, Mumbai ( National Gallery of Modern Art).
